Avon Standard
wins major prize at Gaydon, 2004

A delighted Joy Thorne
and her prizewinning Avon Standard 10/12, with club committee member Lynda
Homer and her Standard 10 saloon. Both cars were built in 1934 and share
the same chassis and many mechanical parts.

This is rapidly becoming
the second most important one-day event in the crowded Club calendar.
Fortunately the weather was kind to us and there was a good turnout of
over 20 Standards. Dwarfed by Triumphs as is usual, but a credible
performance.
The theme of this years
events was "Made from Standard-Triumph Parts", so as well as the
mother marque, there were Avons, Bond, Doretti, Fergusons and many others.
A feature of this show is a day-long running commentary. As cars are
brought forward to the display area, Steve Redway and Graham Robson, both
very knowledgeable on Standard-Triumph matters describe the vehicles and
interview their owners. There was much interest in all the Standards on
display.
There was a semi-formal formal concours
competition later in the day when six cars were bought forward for final
judging. In the end, the Avon 10/12 of Nick and Joy Thorne was awarded 1st
prize in the "Guest" i.e. non-Triumph category, much to the
owners delight as this was their first outing to a Standard event. I am
sure that you will agree however that this is a very pretty car. You can
see more pictures of the Avon here.
