NEWS FROM THE MANCHESTER
& NORTH WEST GROUP, 5th May 2004
(guys, please send me some photos,
electronic or otherwise, to illustrate this article -thanks, webmaster)
Our 2004 show season began on the 11th
April, with our stand entry in the Astle Park (nr Holmes Chapel) Vintage
Fair. There were fourteen vehicles on our stand including two very nice
Triumph Renown’s. We also had a Rolls Royce as one of our Open Class
exhibits. Bryan Jones was awarded Best Car in Show with his 1955
Standard Ten Saloon and the Organizer, Mrs June Daniels welcomed the
Manchester Group and said how much she appreciated the Standard Club entry
in the show.
Our first Road Run of the year took place
on the 25th April when we joined forces with the Riley R.M.
Club to visit the Manchester Museum of Transport in Cheetham Hill,
Manchester. Early starters enjoyed bacon sandwiches and coffee at the
Museum and enthused at the large collection of transport vehicles and
memorabilia housed on the premises.
Following the visit there followed a
pleasant tour through the Lancashire countryside and passing the home of
that well known character, Fred Dibnah. On to the Bury station of the East
Lancashire Railway where lunch was partaken in the Station Restaurant.
This was followed by a return trip to Rawtenstall on a magnificent steam
locomotive hauling coaches of an era long since gone.
Altogether, over thirty people took part
on the Road Run with a nice selection of Standard, Triumph and Riley
vehicles. It was agreed by all that the day, favoured by excellent weather
conditions, was most enjoyable.
The Manchester Group is arranging a
Sunday Display Day at the Manchester Museum of Transport later this year.
If any Club member would like to join us and/or exhibit his/her vehicle at
the museum on the day they would be most welcome. Details will be
announced as soon as the date has been finalised. Please contact Bryan
Jones if you are interested (0161 483 7121).
We are also inviting Club members to join
us on our stand at the Tatton Park shows in June and August, 2004. There
are excellent Autojumbles at these shows which are highly rated in the
North West. Please contact Bryan for full details, entry is of course free
if you are exhibiting a Classic vehicle.
