and his award for the 1934 Standard 10
|
The Group held its annual Display Evening
at the Woodthorpe Hotel, Prestwich, Manchester on the 26th
June, 2003. Entries well exceeded last year’s numbers with 32 vehicles
on display. Nine Standards were entered and three Triumphs with the
remaining entries in the Open Class.
Thomas Taylor, a long standing member of
the Standard Motor Club won the award of merit for the best Standard or
Triumph with his 1934 Standard 10 WH 5287 and A. Brown took the merit
award in the Open Class for his 1959 Vauxhall Cresta PDB 189. A prize was
presented to each winner by the Group’s Organiser, Bryan Jones.
One of the highlights of the evening was
the attendance at the display of Dave Haddock’s superb Yelloways Coach
that had been converted into a Yelloways museum. Dave has spent many years
collecting Yelloways memorabilia and he has a fantastic collection of
items associated with this well known holiday coach company which was
based at Rochdale until it ceased trading in the 1980’s. Many of the
visitors to the Display Evening had traveled with Yelloways on holidays
and said that the visit to the museum had brought back many happy
nostalgic memories for them.
The weather for the evening was glorious
and the event was voted an outstanding success by those who attended. The
Group also enlisted a number of new members during the evening.
Any recently enrolled members of the
Standard Motor Club who live in the Manchester and North West area are
invited to join the Manchester Group and will be given a warm welcome.
