Newly
Discovered "Salmon and Sons" bodied Standard

The Salmons and
Sons bodied Standard........
There has been a
thread on the Standard forum for a couple of weeks now, where an
owner was trying to find a carburettor for a Standard 8. After
further questioning, it transpires that this is not an
"Eight" at all, but something much rarer. The registration
document has been unearthed and these photographs have also emerged:
The owner believes
that this is a Salmon and Sons bodied Standard 12Hp. Salmon and
Sons were a coachbuilders dating back to 1820 ( real carriages!)
but they became "Tickfords" in the mid 1930's. Tickfords
survive today as part of Aston Martin, i.e. now owned by the Ford
Motor Company.
The photographs lead
me to believe that this is a 1934 car, though the owners paperwork
states that it is 1935. This seems unlikely, since the car appears
to be identical to the Dave Osbourne ( ex Sid Sparkes)1934
Tickford 10Hp That is the grey car that I have included
below. Therefore, if this is Salmon and Sons it must be earlier
that the Tickford illustrated.
I hope to be able to
more accurately identify what is undoubtedly a very rare car, be
it either a Tickford, or Salmon and Sons, when the commission
number is available.
As usual, you can
click on and photograph to see an enlarged version, though quality
is limited by the compressed size of the original files:

Standard may even be unique. (Watch this space!)
