Atlas Minibus Rescued

Dr Norton waves goodbye to her Atlas (although we promised to take it back when it's on the road)

Phil,

I attach a couple of shots of an Atlas that Brian Birch and I rescued last Sunday. A chap from the Morris J2 register told me about it at the NEC show. It is a 1959 Atlas with Kenex 9 seater minibus conversion.

The Atlas is unloaded outside Brian Birch's house just as it gets dark.

It had one owner, a Worcester GP, Dr Margaret Norton, who is now almost 90. She bought it as a fifties 'people mover' to take her extended family on daytrips and holidays. It was last used in 1983, but has done only 12000 miles! It is very solid and original, and Brian Birch is going to keep it that way. It even came with a brand new gearbox and rear axle, which Dr Norton bought when a local garage disposed of its Standard parts. It was originally beige, but was painted blue many years ago.
