unknown 1927 model unearthed in Australia
First ever
sighting of a 18/42 model
Gerald Atrill has
emailed from Australia with these shots of a model that I didn't
know existed.
It's a 6 cylinder model 6-V but
rated at 18/42 Hp. The reference material identifies a 1927 6-V, but
rates it as a 18/36 Hp machine. As it happens I don't know of
the existence of one of those either!
Gerald believes the difference in
the 18/42 & 18/36 to be:
18/36------3 speed , vertical louvres on bonnet sides
18/42------4speed, horizontal louvres on bonnet
sides ( though his car is minus its bonnet)
It was incomplete when he bought the car and since then he has
have been buying anything that might fit. He has 4
different radiators, all out of Standards. He would like
a photograph of what the car should look like - I have nothing, so
can you help?
As Standard were in the habit of
exporting cars in chassis form at the time, for bodywork to be
fitted by local builders, it is not beyond the realms of possibility
that Gerald's car is one of those. Perhaps the 18/42 was also an
export only model, which is why I can find no reference to it at
home.
In any case, Gerald, you must have
the only one. That quote usually ensures that someone will mail me
about another - bring it on!
If you , dear reader, have any more
information, I would be glad to publish it and Gerald would be
pleased to hear about it.

I am aware that there are other cars
and information that could be added to this site to make it more comprehensive, so if you
have material and photographs, please let me know. Please send me, Phil Homer, a
