| Model
of 1903 Standard "Victoria" by Charbens
Please ask for permission to
reproduce these photographs:

Well, what did you
expect, the real thing?
This diecast metal model of
the 1903 Standard Victoria was made by Charbens in the 1950's and it
is the first that I have seen, let alone owned! Charbens, a UK firm,
made a succession of "Matchbox" scale replicas of a number
of early Motorcars, of which this Standard was number 9 in the
series.
The modelling is a
little crude, if honest. To be fair, there could not have been much
more that a couple of photos available to work from. so it is a very
commendable attempt.
The body is wine red
and the separately cast hood is fawn. The wheels and tyres are
yellow metal. A small blob of gold paint has been added to the
steering wheel. The underside has the cast words "Charbens"
and "Made in England" .
There is a
comprehensive history of "Charbens"
and their models here. My thanks to Keith Baker for his excellent
website.
I was unaware of the
existence of this model, so no doubt with this publicity many of
them will start turning up now. I welcome polite comments on my
model's originality on the Messageboard.
As usual, you can

Now for comparative
purposes, here is the real thing:

The first
Standard, with Alex Craig at the wheel.
I am aware that there are other cars
