Soon after
it was introduced, it was realised that the basic Standard
Eight/Ten engine, was very rugged and could be developed
and tuned to produce far more power. This engine was designed
by David
Eley, who was made an honorary member of the Standard
Motor Club in 2006
One of the first
attempts to tune this engine resulted in a kit, produced by
Alexander Engineering, and their modification did not
invalidate the manufacturers warranty.
This article,
sent to me by Steve Webb, describes the modifications and
effect on performance and is authored by John Bolger of
Autocar. My thanks to Steve for sending this in and to Autocar
for their permission to reprint it.
