Standard 10 van needs saving in Finland

Rare Standard 10 Van conversion

Hi Phil,
At last. The photo! I remember send it. Very rust Standard Van. Scrapyard, Finland. Near Mäntsälä about 50 km north to Helsinki.

Have you any material (photo, book, brochure or etc.)for Standrive semi-automatic gearbox? I have very interested to make some story from that system to our club maqazine.
Do you know what is standrive operating principle? I think anyhow centrifugal clutch?

I own vw beetle semiautomatic (saxomat)too. Thats clutch works to vacuum servo.

Hi Jorma,

The car you describe is without doubt a Standard 10 Van and it was factory built. This one has a side window conversion that I have not seen before.

Many thousands were made but these Vans had a very hard life and were not looked after. As a consequence, they are quite rare things to find today, there are perhaps four or five on the road still today in England.

I will run a feature on the Standrive system on the website at some point in the future, or perhaps someone would like to write one for me? Don't be shy, dear readers!

Kind regards,

Phil
