Successes
at the Grantham Cup

Richard Harvey,
proud owner of a Teignmouth Van and a Standard 8
Hi Phil,
After our telephone
conversation this afternoon I thought that I should pass on this
information to you about my father-in-law's two cars and our
recent first places at the Grantham Cup held at the Belton Horse
Trials at Belton House on Sunday 13th of April 2008.
Both cars are owned by Richard
Harvey of Collingham near Newark Notts, a Standard Club Member who
has two Standards.
1. A 1957 Standard Eight which
has been an ongoing restoration project for the last 4 years
having had a major overhaul of the suspension and brakes rebuilt
and repainted engine and total rechroming of all parts bumpers
etc. It only finished having a re-spray two weeks ago and is still
in need of some interior work which now Richard has taken full
time retirement should be done by the end of the year !!!!!!
2. A 1927 Standard Teignmouth
which has been total restored as a small commercial. Having been
found being used as a chicken coop in the late fifties this car
has taken on many different guises, in the early sixties being
sold as just the chassis and bonnet, engine and running gear. Iin
the early sixties to seventies this car had several owners and at
one time was a shooting brake until it was totally restored
in to its present day body and held by a private collector until
Richard bought it last year. The engine and electrical systems
have been overhauled and some rechroming of the radiator cowl and
wheel nuts and lots of polishing bringing it back up to its first
class standard.
Both of these cars are in perfect
working order but are by no means in concours condition but are
loving adored by the whole family and to gain first place in the
pre 1950s class and first place in the 1950-1959 class was just a
bonus, it just goes to show that with a little effort we can all
do our bit to preserve our own bit of history.

Hi Shaun and Sarah,
Please pass on my
congratulations to Richard, he must be proud of his achievements and
rightly so. I do hope that the rest of the membership will have a
chance to see his good work at the Standard
International Rally. Look forward to seeing the cars and meeting
you there.
Kind regards,
Phil Homer
