Standard 10 takes the Bride to Church

Standard 10 as a Wedding car

I thought you would like a picture of a recent happy day out with our 1955 Standard 10 . As it is a long way from a vintage Rolls Royce or Jaguar, I am not sure how many times a humble 1950s Standard 10 has been used as a wedding car.

When we bought our Standard 10, RRW 753, in 1990, one of the first outings we had with the car was to Elvaston Castle Steam Rally. As well as our son and daughter, Anthony, a friend of our son's came along too and he was very impressed with his day out. In fact he was so impressed that 14 years later he asked if he could use the car for his wedding.

We agreed that he could, but only on condition that his fiancee, Jenny, came along to look at the car first just in case she was under the impression that it was a lot more low slung and stylish. Also would anyone wearing a large dress would fit in the back seat anyway? We need not have worried, since Jenny is a size 8 and was planning to wear a very slim dress, there was plenty of room.

After several weeks of cleaning and polishing, plus some long-overdue internal restoration, RRW 753 was decorated with ribbons and bows for the big day. The wedding was held in a small country church in a tiny hamlet next to our village on the Leicestershire/Warwickshire border. A village incidentally where our Standard has spent virtually all of her 49 years.

Thanks Rosalyn, that's how easy it is to have your news story published. Where is the picture of bride and groom with their faithful chariot?
