First
Ever pictures of the Flying 8, 4 door saloon

Hello
Phil,
One of our members Peter, (
Standard Vanguard Enthusiast Guild) here in Victoria,
Australia has got a 1940 four door Flying 8.
As far a we know there are
not any others known ( we were told years ago when this
vehicle surfaced that there were only 3 in Australia but 2
were basket cases this being the other ).
The car is still in fairly
original condition as is used often on club runs.
Please find attached some
photos.

Guild,
Wow, I have been
looking for a 4 door 8 - they are extinct in the UK, so
this is a very rare car indeed!
As car production
was stopped after the declaration of war in Sept 1939, the car
must have been built before then, it just took until 1940 to get
to Australia and get registered. If you can get the
commission number it will probably date it to Summer (here)
1939. Its clearly "factory" as the brochure shot is
identical, except the Aussie car has the wrong bumpers.
The chassis was
lengthened by 5 inches to accommodate the longer body.
Regards,
Phil Homer
