Find Standard Flying 10 Saloon

When I bought this Farm 24 years
ago we found an old car in one of the sheds! The 4 wings and
radiator cowel had been unbolted and put to one side as if
somebody had started a restoration. I found out that it had been a
local car (we live near Lampeter in Wales) and a chap had asked a
previous farmer if he could use the shed to work on the car. The
farm changed hands once more before I bought it and I would say
that the car has been here for at least 27 years.
In 1995 I needed to use the shed as a temporary kitchen while we
were restoring the farmhouse so decided to move the car, which I
thought was a Flying 8 (until I looked at your website this
evening), to a shed the other side of the yard. I pumped up the
tyres and hooked up my Fordson Major to it only to discover that
all 4 wheels had seized solid ! After a bit of head scratching I
discovered that the handbrake was still on!! Once released the car
rolled perfectly and we didn't need the tractor.
While it was outside I gave it a quick wash and then wired the
wings and cowel back in place and fitted the bonnet lids - it
looked not bad. Rats had eaten away most of the trim and stuffing
from the seats and my son had previously fallen through the fabric
roof but all the car and lights etc. were there apart from the
spare wheel which I had sold for £10.00 to a local standard
owner. He also took a fancy to the headlamps but I was not keen to
split the car up.
Anyway we wheeled the old car into another shed next to my 1966
Hillman Imp
(I passed my test in that when it was new!) where it has remained
gathering dust for another 9 years in which time it has
deteriorated no further.
Today my son, now nearly 19, and my Daughter pushed the car partly
out of the shed and took some digital photos and checked the
Chassis number:-
Car 10C HP
Comm No - BC 2637 S
Reg No. - EJ 6148
So this evening I searched for info on the web and 'Pre war
Standard cars' found your site at the top of the list!
For the last hour or so I believed it was a Standard Flying 10 but
just this moment my Son and Daughter have come into the room and
have pointed out that in fact the car in
my shed is not like the Flying 10s on your website but is just
like the painting on the brochure of the 4 door 1939 Standard
Flying 8!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am now going to attach the photos that we have taken so
far...........
Let me know what you think
