Standard
8 Drophead Coupe sells well at Auction Sale

1948 8Hp DHC
This Postwar
Standard 8 Drophead Coupe was offered for sale by British Car
Auctions at the 5th June Sale at the Historic Brooklands Motor
Racing Circuit. The car was finished in a light fawn, described as
Magnolia with red trim. The car had been off the road for a number
of years, and there was evidence of failed attempts to start it
including a spare coil under the bonnet. The interior had been
subject to an amateur retrim, the front seats in particular
needing to be redone. The hood and paintwork were in fairly good
condition and there was no evidence of rust in the sills. The
bumpers were straight and the car appeared to be complete.
Before the lot, the
auctioneer described the car including the fact it had no MoT and
would not start, probably as a result of stale petrol, he said.
Offered with no reserve, bidding opened at £500 and proceeded
quite briskly at £100 increments. It was knocked down at £2400.
The sale price
including buyers commission, VAT on the commission and a £100
(+VAT ) transport charge would set back the new owner a total of
£2800, a fair price for what is a pretty solid little car, even
if it was a bit of an unknown quantity.
