1937 Standard Flying 12 Custom Car
I first featured this Flying 12 briefly in November 2010. I now feature further photographs of it to coincide with the full colour feature now in the Feb/March edition of Triumph World, by this Author The Flying 12 has been thoughtfully and expertly updated using modern components whilst retaining almost the original shape. The most noticeable change is the deletion of the rear doors and lengthening of the front doors to make a good-looking 2 door Coupé. Briefly the specification now comprises a 2.3 litre Volvo turbo engine mated to a 5 speed Toyota gearbox. The Disc Brakes all round are by Brembo and the front suspension is by MacPhearson struts. Wheels are 20" at rear with 19" at the front. The interior uses Porche seat frames and has been retrimmed in beige leather with matching carpets. The original sunroof has been retained, as has the instrument panel. Further information and more photos are available in the current edition of Triummph world which also compares the Custom car with an original specification car.
