Horton's 4/8A Tourer
Having a look at the SMC website I've
come across the feature on 4/8A Tourers. The one top left, DPN 298,
belongs to me. The one at bottom right may be the
same car. The only reason I have for saying this is that the hood
frame on mine was also painted white whilst others I have seen have
all been black. I also have a 1934 ten VL 6309.

I bought the car from Nigel Batterham
of Tadley, Hants in November of 1999. It is on the road and used
mostly all year round doing driving type rallies, a favourite being
the Coast to Coast (Scarborough to Morecombe) organised by the 750
Motor Club. It has run perfectly for the four years I have owned it.
Very little has been done to it, except of course maintenance and the
fitting of a stainless steel exhaust system. I had to return to the
manufacturer/fitter who are in Sutton (I can recommend them) to have
an extra small silencer fitted as the sound was more akin to that of a
Healy 3000. Somehow the performance didn't seem to match up with the
exhaust note. They did this at no extra cost.
There is a letter on page 21 of the
Club magazine for July/August 1982, written by Joe Evans. I have an
old style log book running from 1953 and Mr Evans' name is the last
entry dated 1981. Previous copies of V5 documents show previous owners
as:-
Mrs Monica Ashey of Kingston on
Thames Acquired car on 1 Jan 1988
David Nolan 18 Oct 1991
Nigel Batterham 31 July 1992
There is also a letter/article by
Nigel on his restoration of DPN in July/August edition of the Standard
Car Review of 1993.
My wife Helen and I live at Sutton in
Ashfield, Notts, consequently we live only 20 minutes or so away from
Derbyshire's Peak District and the National Tramway Museum and
regularly spend hours driving in the Peak District and also into
Yorkshire.
I will attach a couple of photos to
this email taken over the last couple of years and hope this is of a
little interest.
Dave Hatton. Mem No 2410

Thanks Dave, hope you are enjoying the
site.
Thanks for the photos of your
car, and its history. I think you are right, I took the bottom
right photo at the Brighton Classic Car Show, sometime in the
early '80s when it was owned by Joe Evans. Don't remember where I
took the other one, though it's a similar vintage. Its nice of you
to let me know where the car is now.
Come back to the site shortly and you
will find it featured there. The last photo is so nice it will also
get into the photo gallery.
Hope that you will be able to get the
car to Scarborough for the International Rally this year, the
roadrun on Saturday will appeal to you as I believe we will be
touring "Heartbeat" country. Details in the magazine and
on the site soon.
Thanks again,
