Enthusiastic
Standard Owners in County Wicklow

Hi
Phil,
I
had been on the lookout for a vintage car for about six months.
It had to be a 4-seat open top tourer (option to include
the family) and if possible be a make that had some link
with the family (Morris, Standard, Austin). Having had no joy in
finding anything in Ireland I was lucky enough to find a
Standard 8 Open Tourer in Wales (using eBay) at an affordable
price. So my brother and I bought the car and we have done
about 500 miles in 2 months. Please see attached some
photo's.
On
trolling through our old photos we came upon a photo of the grandfather's Standard
(see attached), and as you can see it was a Standard 8
Woody. It was bought in 1948 because the Morris 10 cracked
the block in the cold winter of 47. The Woody was well
suited to support the family General Store (carrying of
supplies and delivering orders to surrounding households) and the
family Cinema (carrying of films) in Clondalkin, Co.
Dublin. The Woody was owned up to around 1957/58. In
fact it is the first car that my elder brother and I ever
travelled in as it was used to bring us home when we were born.
So
now we proudly show off the car and have the added advantage of
having family stories to tell about the model.
Regards
and thanks,
Pat

Many thanks Pat for these
excellent photos. The Woody is of course a postwar car, whilst
your Tourer is prewar - and very pretty it is too. We all hope
that you enjoy your Standard and meet many like minded people in
your part or Ireland.
