Superb
Flying 12 in Sweden

Top marks for
the Flying 12 !
Bi Legelius writes from Sweden
with photographs of his superb Flying 12
I also enclose a few recent shots of my own 1937 Flying Twelve.
I know the air cleaner is wrong, but I have so far not found a
correct one. There is at least one thing more wrong with it; can
you spot that on the photos?
Best wishes
Bo

Hi Bo,
Many thanks for all this.
I guess you think you have the wrong ( earlier ) airhorns. Your
car looks great!
If I may offer a little advice, of which you are probably
aware. The underbonnet shot shows that a small piece of wire
connects the accelerator "arm" to the carburettor.
The hand throttle is not connected. This is the knob on the
bottom left of the dashboard that has a cable with a vernier
adjustment. The other end of the cable (outer) should be bolted to
the accelerator lever, whilst the inner of the cable extends to
the throttle arm. That allows the accelerator to operate the
throttle and also the vernier to adjust the slow running speed.
I don't think the car will be reliable enough to get to England
unless you put this right immediately !!
Kind regards,
Phil Homer
Hi Phil,
Thank you for your mail. You are really eagle-eyed to spot that
throttle activation. It has been like that since I got the car six
years ago and it has puzzled me a bit. The hand throttle had been
removed and a fog lamp switch fitted in its place. I don't miss
the hand throttle but do you think
I should replace that piece of wire with a rigid link?
I didn't mean the horns, I think they are right for a 1937. The
thing wrong, although quite nice, is that it has both the old
style winged radiator badge and the union jack motif. The chassis
number is past the change point so the winged badge must have been
retrofitted. It may not have been that apparent from the photos,
so I send a clearer one with my Flyer posing with a stable
mate.
There is also a shot to show that I have the
original optional extra heater ready in the boot to use if there
would be an unexpected cold spell in Stockholm. (!)
Kind regards
Bo
