Dinesh B. Shrestha emails from Nepal:

"My passion for the vehicles brought me across this car. Since a child I had great desire for the vehicles. As a little child, I used to collect the photos of the vehicles and the cutouts from the magazines. I have also collected a lot of toy cars i.e. specially the cars of vintage models. My family has always driven and usually a new model but my true passion was something unique, something old and something for which I would be accounted for. I had a desire to own a car with significance.

This desire of mine was enriched and empowered by the car show held in BICC (Birendra International Convention Center). The effect of the show on me was so deep that I was determined to own a car. Just like the one in the show, (a vintage car), but didn't know when & how, because I had no idea that where & with whom I can buy a car nor I had any idea of the price of the type of the vehicle. Then one day as usual while coming back home from work I used the unusual road, the road through Sanepa. There on the way I was slowed down by the view of a vehicle; a beauty in a pathetic condition. I stopped to have a glance at the vehicle, it was a real beauty but was dumped and was in its final days of getting thrown away. Then next day I came back with some of my friends & showed them the car, some of my freinds appreciated and some said that it was a heap of junk, but I was determined. So I negotiated with the owner of the car Capt. Mr. Madhav Lal Singh who had bought the car from a Royal Doctor Late Mr. Krishna Gopal Baidya to whom the His Majesty the King Tribhuwan has presented the vehicle. With much effort he agreed to sell me his car also he was very glad to see my enthusiasm and affection towards the vehicle.

From him I came to know that the car belonged to Late His Majesty The King Tribhuwan. After knowing that the car was once owned by the "Father of the Nation", my affection towards the car became stronger because it has added more to its significance, and should be protected.

After  buying the vehicle there was a long way to "finish", still a lot of thing to be done. My first headache was that the car was of very old model and I was not very sure that if I would be able to get its spare-parts in the market But with the encouragement and help of my elder brother Mr. Rajesh B. Shrestha and my friends Mr. Niraj D. Joshi, Mr. Niraj Amatya and the enthusiasm of my mechanic Mr. Dharma, I am here with my car all ready to fly. It’s the same car, which was once called "A heap of Junk" by some people. Today I am very happy with my car and am very proud of it.

Thank you

Hi Dinesh,

Congratulations on being the first, (and only?) Standard owner in Nepal! Your car is a 1946-1948 model. You also seem to have acquired another one! What is the story around the white one?. I am pleased that you like and are proud of your car, it certainly must be very unusual in Nepal. I am sure it will give you long and faithful service.

Can you tell us about Vintage car events in Nepal?

Kind regards,

Phil
