Looking Standard 8 Tourer
Hi Phil,
I wondered if you'd be
interested in adding the attached photo of my 1947
Standard 8 Tourer to the Flying featured cars page. I
acquired the car on Saturday the 6th. May 2006.
For some years I had wanted
a small, old car to have a bit of fun with. I was going to
buy a Herald or Vitesse, but the price I was being asked
to pay for one in good, useable condition was such
that I decided I could spend a similar amount on something
much more interesting, so I did. I'm still
acquainting myself with the car and am learning to drive
in a different way to how I drive a modern car, with a lot
more anticipation of junctions, hold-ups, traffic lights,
etc. I take corners at a steadier pace and have a more
leisurely approach to gear changing. Perhaps these are
good habits I could apply to all my driving?
I purchased the car through
a dealer but the last 'proper' owner was Michael Fenner of
Southampton, a member of the Club, I believe. The log book
that came with the car only goes back to 1961. The car
spent the sixties, seventies and eighties in Suffolk
and Norfolk, until acquired by Mr Fenner in 1991.
I'm hoping for years of
pleasure from my new 'toy' and, so far, the car has
been great.
Best wishes,

Hi Alan,
A sensible choice, you
are one of a growing band to appreciate the quality of
these little cars. You are lucky that the car needs no
work after being off the road sometime, and I hope that it
doesn't become too necessary to call on the club for
parts!
Hope you can make the International
Rally at Bovington on July 8th! We look forward to
meeting you there.
Kind Regards
Phil
