A
Swiss Standard Eight Drophead Coupé

The quality of the restorations of
your cars continues to improve. Another example of a very good
looking rebuild has been sent to me and is shown here. This is a
Postwar 8 DHC. Perhaps the owner will consider joining the club
and to join in the events run by our active Swiss group?

Hello
Phil,
For
more than 20 years I am the owner of this car. Initially it was
grey. I bought the car dismantled and rebuild it completely. The
car, now in blue colour, runs like new.
I
have now the following questions:
Are
there still more vehicles of this type in roadworthy condition in
existence?
Yes,
there are several more cars like yours in England and Switzerland
in roadworthy conditions, and more are currently being restored.
When
were these cars produced?
The
Standard Flying. 8’s were produced before the war, with a
3 speed gearbox, or, as your model after the war, with a four
speed gearbox. From the Commission Number, your car was produced
in 1948.
Are
the number of cars produced known?
As
Saloon, Estate, Drophead Coupé and Tourer, there were 83,139cars
produced. The precise number of Drophead Coupés is not known
What
did this car cost in 1948?
The
Standard 8 Saloon was sold in 1946 in Switzerland for CHF
8’100.— The Drophead Coupé would be more expensive
I
happily look forward to your reply and send you greetings from
Switzerland.
