4/8A Drophead Coupe in Thailand
I'm writing on
behalf of some Thai friends, who have Standards. (I'm English by
the way )
I live in Bangkok, and have just restored a classic Rover P4 1960,
and am a member of the Thai Vintage Car Club
I have just returned from the TVCC Parade at Hua Hin, Thailand, in
association with the Sofitel Hotel there, celebrating their 80th
birthday.
I have enclosed a photo of my friend's car, which baffles me.
can you identify it please ?
Spares are the one thing of course that they don't have, but that
doesn't stop them from enjoying their cars.
In Thailand we have the ability to make most of our spares, or if
needs must, stick in a Nissan, with auto gearbox
hope you enjoy the pictures, let me know about the car !
Regards
Stuart Penketh

Hi Stuart.
Your friends car is a postwar (1946-48) Standard 4/8 Drophead Coupe.
It appears to have odd headlights, the offside being larger than
original. Something strange appears to be going on with the hood and
the external horn (!) has been added. Whatever, its good to see it
still running about in Thailand.
Please refer your
friend to the Clubs site at www.standardmotorclub.org.uk
where he will find similar cars, such as http://www.standardmotorclub.org.uk/cars/flying/features/swiss8dhc.htm
Thanks for your interest, please send more photos and something
about the car and I will publish it.
I am glad there appears to be a thriving Classic Car scene in
Thailand.
Kind regards,
Phil
I am aware that there are other cars
and information that could be added to this site to make it more comprehensive, so if you
have material and photographs, please let me know. Please send me, Phil Homer, a
message at: Webmaster
