Uruguayan
Standard 8 Tourer Restoration

Here's
an update on the progress to the restoration of Andres Goncalves's
Postwar Standard 8 Tourer in Uruguay. You will see that most of
the hard work has been done, not least the fabrication of a new
set of sills. I am sure Andres is well on the way to completing
this project, which just shows what can be done with a very
unpromising original example.
Good
luck, Andres, and I look forward to featuring your completed car
in due course
Here
is what the car looked like earlier:

Hi,
dear Phil,
My
name is Andres Goncalves, I have contacted you before, because I
am the owner of a Standard 8 Tourer 1948, that I have purchased
some time ago in very poor condition. Actually I am restoring the
car and I need to know the brand of the carburettor that the
Flying
Standard used (was it a Solex or a Zenith, which was the model
number?). I will attach some pictures of my Standard (when I
received it and the actually condition).
I
have brought a Drop Head Coupe and 3 Sedans, to take off parts to
be used on my Tourer restoration. As soon as the Tourer
restoration be finished, I will list some parts on eBay.
Best
wishes and regards from Uruguay.
Andres
Hi
Andres,
Firstly,
mu apologies for the delay in including your feature, i have been
working through a large backlog.
I
think you are the first Standard owner in Uruguay that we have
come across, though I suspect that you have more Standards in your
country. If so, I would love to hear from other owners.
You
certainly have a huge job to restore this 8 but the Club can give
you as much help and support as it can.
The
Carburettor that you need is a Solex 26 AIC, though I
suspect that may not be the only part that you might require! I
can tell you that at the moment, the club can supply this
carburettor. Please enquire for parts you need to pre-48spares@standardmotorclub.org.uk
I
look forward to being able to publish more photos of your car as
the restoration progresses.
Kind
regards,
Phil
Your restoration
