1934 "9" Two Door Saloon
Alan writes the following about his
car:
"I saw the car in a field in
November 1995 and bought it for £750.
I spent 3 years restoring it, working on it nearly every day. The only part of the
restoration not done by me was the remetaling of the bearings and the machining of the
crankshaft and cylinders.
There is an article about it in the September 1998 club magazine.
The car is a 1934 Standard 9, chassis number 215926SP, engine number 3168. and has now
covered just 800 miles since being born again. Driving it is an experience as there are no
indicators fitted and setting off from stationary is a very slow business. The cable
brakes are quite good especially the hand brake which works on all four wheels using the
same linkage as the foot pedal. The 1052cc side valve engine seems to have plenty of power
on the level but dies a bit on hills but it's not yet "run in".
The car is brush painted with coach paint, I gave it three coats of primer, three of
maroon and three of varnish. I use the car about twice a week running locally and recently
completed without incident the Manchester to Blackpool rally covering 180 miles that
day."
The photograph below shows the same car before it's restoration. I am sure
you will agree that Alan has made a superb restoration.
