Standard
Motor Club Webmaster
I
have seen your Standard website and I wish I was there to see
some of the cars you show on the Vanguard pages.
I
have enclosed a photograph of my father’s 1949 Vanguard.
Notice the left hand drive.
That’s me on the fender beside dad.
Gosh! That was almost 60 years ago.
This
picture was taken on a trip to the east coast of Canada in 1950.
This
was dad’s first new car after the war and he loved it.
As I recall, his biggest complaint was that the rain
would run down the rain gutter, straight into the gas tank.
Not sure what he did to correct the problem.
After
the Vanguard (which he had for about 5 years) he only bought
huge General Motors cars. Even
though he switched to American cars, he always talked about the
Vanguard.
I
too, have had a few British cars in my time, including an Austin
Mini and two MGBs. I
currently own a 1975 MGB that only gets driven on the fairest of
days.
Keep
up the great work on your website – I will drop by often.
