Competition Number 2

The mystery "petals" against a ruler

These are "petal" shaped pieces made from a soft Lead alloy. There are each about 2 cm long. There are 20 plus of these on a 1934 Standard and they are all identically shaped. I have no reason to doubt that they are probably on every Standard or indeed most cars of the era. They are normally invisible in everyday use but you would be in no doubt that they are there. What are they and what do they do?

Again I will allow over two weeks for your answers and there will be two prizes for the winner, due to a rollover from the last competition.

Send your answer to webmaster@standardmotorclub.org.uk. Good luck!

Ideas for further competitions are welcomed.

I am aware that there are other cars and information that could be added to this site to make it more comprehensive, so if you have material and photographs, please let me know.  Please send me, Phil Homer, a message at: Phil Homer
