West Midlands Group Organiser, Alan Withey, was rather caught unawares when he was awarded Honorary Membership of the Club on 31st Jan 2004.

Speaking at the West Midlands Annual Dinner, Club Secretary,  Lynda Homer recalled how Alan had organised the first West Midlands Rally, which also formed the National Rally in 1982. As a committee Member, Alan was always keen to promote the Club's attendance at Classic Car shows and for owners to use their cars on the Road.

Alan's organisational skills led to his successful delivery of the Avoncroft National Rally in 1989 and subsequently, the National at Drayton Manor in 1991. Over all these years Alan also organised the Annual West Midlands Rally, the Annual Malvern Three Counties Show and the Club's Stand at the Town and Country Festival at Stoneleigh. Lynda commented on Alan's huge success this year at Stoneleigh where the Club's Centenary stand was positioned in prime place next to the central arena. Alan's long suffering wife May was also thanked for her unending support.

It was because of Alan that no less than 42 of us had been brought together for yet another Annual Dinner, she said. It was for these and a whole host of other reasons that the committee had decided on this award.

It was with much pleasure that Lynda was able to present  this Honorary Membership to Alan. Alan received the framed certificate that you can see in the photograph. We look forward  to the next of Alan' events and many more to come!
