Mike Wilks's 1934
10 gets a brake reline
At the
restoration show, clubs are encouraged to engage in some repair or
renovation to one of their
cars. This makes the event more popular and keeps the punters more
interested in the stands for longer. Steve O'Hara takes up the story:
"The West
Midlands group put on another interesting restoration stand this year.
Mike Wilkes brought along his lovely 1934 Ten saloon and the job for the
day was to reline the brakes. Things went swimmingly: Mike and his trusty
sidekick John Maxwell worked steadily and made good progress. I was
despatched to buy some glass paper to clean the shoes, so I was of some
use. The last pair of shoes to be removed caused some consternation - the
linings were bonded, so there were no rivet holes in the shoes! The shoes
were cleaned up and refitted for the time being.
It wasn’t
really an eye-catching display so we weren’t too surprised to lose out
on the prizes. Visitors to the stand included Dennis and Sheila Brown from
Raglan and Brian Shakespeare and Michael Joy from Derbyshire."
We should
also thank Steve for preparing a "Powerpoint" presentation that
was running on his PC all day; that also created more interest for the
passers by.
