International Triumph Show Report

International Triumph Show, February 2005

We put on a three car stand this year, with three rare Standards – Tony Pingriff’s Avon bodied Flying 16, Mike Wilkes’ 1958 Gold Star Ten and Brian Birch’s 1959 Atlas Kenex minibus. Mike’s car was unusual by virtue of its white paintwork, the original colour, and some speculation took place as to the origin of the car, as Triumph expert Bill Piggott identified its registration as in a series used by the factory. White cars, it seems, were almost entirely for export, and it was suggested Mike’s car might have been a press fleet car.

These three were not the only Standards at the show: apart from the fact that nearly all the Triumphs present were really Standards, Ian Leggett brought some club regalia and other items from his Bury St Edmunds home in his Phase II Vanguard, which slightly spoiled his drive by breaking its fanbelt on the way there in the morning.
