| STOCKPORT’S
VE DAY 60TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS – A STANDARD TAKES
PART

As part of the 60th Anniversary for the VE Day
Celebrations a street party was held in the centre of Stockport on
Sunday, 22nd May, 2005. Bryan and Morwena Jones were
invited to attend with their 1937 Flying Standard 12 and the car was
in fact the only pre-WW2 civilian car on display. The vehicle
generated a considerable amount of interest since it was a Stockport
registered car (JA 8781) having been purchased in 1937 by its original
owner from Hollindrake of Stockport who at the time were the main
distributors for Standard cars in the North West and North Wales.
The day was great fun and included many items and displays relating
to the 1940’s. Many people attended in 1940’s military uniform and
civilian dress and appropriate era related music was played throughout
the event. Numerous war-time memorabilia items from Bryan and Morwena’s
collection were displayed in the old Standard and hopefully the Club
received good publicity from the event.
Don’t forget to visit, and if possible bring your Standard or
Triumph vehicle to the North West Group’s Standard
and Triumph Day Out at the
Museum of Transport, Boyle Street, Cheetham Hill, Manchester, on
Sunday, 31st July, 2005, 10.30 am until 4.30 am.
