The West Midlands Rally 2005

A Successful Weekend's Gathering for the West Midlands Group

Mr Pollard wins Car of the Show with his Standard 10 He is flanked by Peter Lockley, Chairman on the left and Alan Withey, Rally Organiser on the right.

We have forgotten how many West Midlands Rallies we have been to, but it certainly goes back at least 25 years. This year's two day event was based on the Craft Centre at Earlswood Lakes on the southern fringes of Birmingham. We were fortunate to have good sunny weather on both days.

On the Saturday morning a picture was taken of all the participants present along with two 1955 10s flanking Peter Lockley's Doretti, to celebrate the fact it was 50 years to the day on June 4th that the Doretti was first registered and sold by the Standard dealers Browetts of Leicester. This was followed by a short roadrun, our destination being "Cadbury World" the famous chocolate makers, at Bournville,  Arriving there at noon, some used their extensive restaurant facilities whilst others sampled a local hosteltry, "the Country Girl", for Lunch.

We all gathered at 2.00pm for the Factory Tour. Whilst no doubt some of us enjoyed this educational visit, others, including your webmaster were unfortunately overcome by the lack of air-conditioning, the large number of bodies and the all pervasive smell of hundreds of tons of sickly warm chocolate!

As we were in the Drophead, there was time for a blast of fresh country air, just what we needed,  on the way back to Earlswood. The evening was occupied by a Rally meal at a local pub, "the Royal Oak". Sunday was a static day at Earlswood culminating in a prizegiving at 4.00pm.

As is my usual practice, you can click on any photo to see a larger version. To save the larger photograph to your machine, right click on it and select the "Save Picture As".. option
