on the 2006 AGM, Part II
If you missed Part I, here
it is

David Eley, right,
presents the Club with a new Trophy
By 2.00pm, lunch was
finished and we all assembled for the AGM. It was pleasing to see that
over 40 members attended. Here are some of the items on the very full
agenda:
The agenda covered reports from all the officers
including the new spares officers. The first, Paul Newsome, spoke about
remanufacturing opportunities including the spring shackle
bushes samples of which he was able to show. Then Brian Parkes spoke about the work that was going on to source stocks
of new old stock spares. Brian appealed for electrical ancillaries that
could be rebuilt- so that we can start an exchange service for dynamos,
starters, voltage regulators and the like.
The Treasurer went through
the accounts, which shows that the club had a small surplus last year,
enough to expand some of our activities in the future. The accounts
will be published in the "Standard Car Review"
At a time when most Classic
Car clubs are suffering the inevitable decline in membership numbers, due
to old age, Tony Pingriff was pleased to be able to report a further small
increase in membership year on year, which is thought mainly to be due to
the increased efforts the club is putting into making Spare Parts
available for our cars.
Every year, a proportion of
the committee offers themselves for re-election. This year it was the turn
of the Editor, Bob Richardson, who was returned unopposed. Dennis Brown
was ratified in his position as DVLA representative and Roger Sims was
confirmed as the "New Members" secretary. Brian Parkes was
elected as a new committee member, specifically to find new sources of
Spare parts for the club. You can see all of the committee here.
There are a small number of
awards presented at every AGM. The winners this year were
-
Phil Homer, your
Webmaster, following an electronic campaign, was awarded the
"Chairmans Cup" for this Website
-
Ian Leggett for his
contributions to the magazine, was awarded the "Editors Cup"
-
Brian Parkes, for his
work in sorting and cataloguing the pre-war Standard Spares Warehouse
was awarded the "ABCD" Award. (Above and Beyond the Call of
Duty)
Finally, Our New honorary
Member, David Eley spoke. He presented the Club with a new award, the
David Eley Rose Bowl. his intention is that this award should be presented
at the International Rally to the best car fitted with "SC"
Small Car Engine. This is the engine fitted to a variety of Standards and
Triumphs from 1953 to 1981 for which David was responsible for the design.
Then, as lunch had settled
down, all the attendees participated in a splendid buffet tea supplied by
the club, a reward for sitting through the formal proceedings!
