Report
on Classics on the Green, August 2006

This Postwar 12
Saloon was one of the attendees
This was our first visit to
"Classics on the Green" which is at Croxley Green in
Hertfordshire, a small village just north of Watford but inside the M25.
Held every year on a Wednesday evening, this year's event attracted an
attendance of, we guessed, about 500 classic cars of all sorts and sizes.
The three Standards that
attended were all by chance parked within a few cars of each other, so
their owners were able to converse. This was the first trip out for our
Standard 10 after the rebuild of its front suspension and brakes. The
springs have been re-tempered and some of the new Polyethylene
bushes have been used. These are part of the Club's remanufacturing
scheme. The ride is much improved now. The whole look is
complimented by five newly refurbished wire wheels which have been
shot-blasted and powder-coated in an ivory colour. Now be honest, don't
the look smart in the photo, below?
The other attendees were
Roger Barnes from Harpenden in his '50s Eight and the Post war 12 Saloon
of Mrs and Mrs Pratchett from Pinner. This is the ex-Stan Wilshir car that
was restored by Sid Sparkes and purchased about 2 years ago.
The rain kept off (again) -
you can see just how dry it is now in the South east of England by the
burnt colour of the grass - yes that is grass!
So a short trip for us, a
pint in the handy "Coach and Horses" and we ran out of petrol on
the way home! Luckily we had a spare gallon in a can!
