Standard and
Triumph Day Out at the Manchester Museum of Transport, Cheetham
Hill, Manchesterl

The Manchester Group
looking very pleased wit themselves at the Cheetham Hill Museum
There was an excellent attendance at this
event that was organised by the Manchester Group on Sunday, 30th
July, 2006. A good selection of Standard and Triumph vehicles
was presented and a total of fifteen classics were in place by
the time the museum opened its doors to the public at 10.30
am. There was much interest in Brian Shakespeare's Phase 1
Vanguard and it was a real treat for the Manchester Group to have Brian
and Maureen attending the event.
Harry Assheton-Smith's Standard Ten,
a rather rare model with no outside opening boot attracted much
attention. Harry has had this car sprayed in its original
colour and it really is outstanding. Another interesting
exhibit was Tony Roach's Triumph Speed Twin Ex Liverpool Police motor
Cycle that was in immaculate condition. All the vehicles were
presented in excellent order and were a credit to their owners.
They blended well with the large selection of vintage buses, trolley
buses and trams in the museum.
Members of the public attending were, as
usual delighted to see the Standard Triumph marque being exhibited and
the Manchester Group flag flew proudly near the entrance of the museum.
Within the museum was an excellent shop
selling precision models of buses and trams together with a magnificent
selection of books and literature on road transport in past times. Members
were treated to free bus rides around Manchester on wonderfully restored
vintage vehicles.
Altogether, the day was rated a great
success and the Museum Curator has invited the Manchester Group back
again in July of next year. Make a note of it in your diary,
the last Sunday in July !.
