Part of the club's
display at Turweston Aerdrome
This is the first time in
the long history of the Chiltern Rally and Roadrun that we have repeated
a venue. This was by popular request as there were so many wanting to
attend the airshow again.
We met at a different
Little Chef from last year, this time just a little North of Milton
Keynes but a way out of our Chiltern base. The roadrun was blessed with
good sunshine and as usual we found the quietest and most picturesque
route.
Turweston is an informal
event and all the cars parked around a central arena, which was
available throughout the day for displays of Club cars. We took our turn
around lunchtime with the display that you see in the top picture.
Unfortunately we were soon
to learn that the local council had placed a flying restriction on the
aerodrome, which meant that there could not be more than 60 flight
movements (i.e. 30 in and 30 out) during the day and no flying
after 4-00pm. This had been caused by a neighbour's complaint, just one
neighbour we understand, about the noise last year. The airfield is very
rurally situated and surely he knew he was moving next to an airfield
when he chose to live there?
With such a good
event last year we had high expectations for this return visit this
year. Whilst the turnout of Standards and other marques was admirable,
the amount of flying was a disappointment. No doubt the neighbour is
content in his achievement - it only spoilt the day for the many
hundreds that turned up - but in this politically correct world they all
had their enjoyment curtailed.
Next year's event will be
a week earlier and we will continue our nomadic journeys, and end up at
another new venue.
