Eight Wirral Group
members plus friends and family joined the Birkenhead Transport Museum
at their open day on Sunday 13th May 2007.
The museum boasts an
increasing collection of vintage and classic pedal cycles, motorcycles
and cars to add to an outstanding array of buses, trams and associated
vehicles. ( A diverse collection ranging from a one hundred years old
tram to a Sinclair C5 !!). Museum staff welcomed the Standard Club
members and they were treated to a tram ride to the Woodside Ferry
Terminal (Home to the famous "Ferry across the Mersey") and a
bus ride (Leyland, Daimler or Route master) to the "Hidden Gardens
of Oxton" – an "open garden" event that annually raises
valuable funds for local charities.
Wirral member’s cars
included Big Nines, Morris Minors and a now rare Vauxhall 101.
Any local members
interested in a visit to the Birkenhead Transport Museum or indeed may
be interested in becoming a volunteer helping to restore and maintain
the exhibits please contact Frank Williams at the Wirral Group for
