The Caerwys show,
Nr Holywell in Flintshire on 15th July 2007 followed a
week of terrible weather but on the day the rain kept away for the
most part and the Wirral Group enjoyed a pleasant and rewarding
day.
The Wirral Group’s
first venture into a club stand saw a selection of fine Standards
and guest vehicles which brought together Standard enthusiasts
from as far a field as Liverpool and the Isle of Anglesey. In
total nine cars were displayed on the stand which included:- |
- Standard Big Nine – Frank
Williams
- Standard Big Nine – Bryn
Heeley
- Standard 12 Drophead –
George Curley
- Standard 9 – Ivor Williams
- Standard 8 – Derek James.
Guest vehicles included a Morris
Minor, Morris Minor Traveller, Rover 14 and a Ford Consul.

Two new standards
to the group were on display and these were the Standard 9 of Ivor
Williams from Anglesey and the Standard 8 of Derek James of
Abergele, both cars have been painstakingly restored by their
respective owners and are absolutely stunning. Ivor made the 54
mile trip to the show in his Nine and the little car did not miss
a beat !
Derek’s Eight
looked resplendent in it’s black paintwork demonstrating the
high standard restoration carried out over the past year. Although
a former Vanguard phase 1 owner Derek was quite rightly proud of
his latest Standard.
|
| This extremely well
organised show raises valuable funds for local charities and this
year drew in twenty four club stands and an entry of five hundred
cars. Although some entrants stayed away due to the appalling
weather predictions, the show was busy and hosted some fabulous
vehicles. Competition was high for the show awards but The
Standard Club were rewarded with two show trophies. Bryn Heeley’s
1930 Big Nine came away with third prize in the "Best in
Show" section whilst the Wirral Group Club Stand was awarded
second place in the "Best Club Stand" section.

The highlight of the show
for the Wirral Club members was witnessing group member Dave "Deadly
Nightshade" Howden attempting the welsh land speed record on a most
unusual bicycle (see photograph bekow). Although he succeeded he did have
some stiff competition from a three-legged whippet!!
