Preliminary Announcement so that you can put the date in your
diaries now:
The
Standard International Rally, 2007 will be held on
June
29th and 30th, July 1st 2007
in the
grounds of
Denny
Abbey and Farmland Museum
Waterbeach,
Nr Cambridge
The most important in the calendar of
events is the Standard Motor Club International Rally. Each year this
moves to a new venue in a different area.
In 2007 it is the chance for all members
in the Eastern counties to have the International Rally
"locally" and converge on CAMBRIDGE.
This is also very accessible from London
M11, Midlands A14, North A47/A10 South A12/A14, West A428 and East
A11/A14, so we look forward to seeing you all in this new location which
is Denny Abbey and The Farmland Museum.
The Museum is a collection of farm
buildings and equipment on a 12th Century Abbey and 14th Century
Franciscan Nuns Refectory site. It is also ideal for children. The Rally
entry fee will include unlimited access to all facilities for all 3 days.
The cars will be displayed amongst the buildings on grassed areas. This
will give an appropriate atmosphere with the farming equipment of an era
similar to our cars.
We plan to invite BBC Radio Cambridge,
and to involve car owners in roving mike interviews about their cars with
a video recording. We also have plans to involve the ladies who sometimes
can feel left out. The Saturday evening will see an informal meal on site,
with some exciting desserts, and with entertainment afterwards provided by
Club members. This will include a sing along, including a specially
written song for the occasion. 2007 is the 60th Anniversary of the
Vanguard and a "Tribute to the Vanguard" will form part of the
weekend.
The Saturday Road Run is an important
tradition, and although the area cannot boast the hilly roads of the two
previous years, we do have an interesting run and the venue is sure to
please as it combines the past and present and has an animal sanctuary.
For those of you able to join us on the
Friday we are planning a short drive to visit a pub and join a Vintage Car
Club meet up. Meals will be available.
There will be some caravan and tent
spaces on the site, (no electric hook up points), at £10 for the weekend.
There is no shop on site but we can arrange for fresh food supplies to be
brought in (ie milk/bread/meats), and a Sunday newspaper if required.
There is a café on site and toilets
available 24 hours.
Booking Forms will be sent out in the New
Year and these will include contacts for a nearby
campsite, the Rally Hotel and many Bed & Breakfast houses
This area has a lot to offer and is worth
considering for short holiday. Suggestions include Horseracing at
Newmarket and The Horseracing Museum, Cambridge Universities, with open
bus tours, Kings Lynn market town, Sandringham House, the coast at
Hunstanton, Duxford Air Museum, Ely Cathedral, Cromwell's House and Wicken
Fen are easily accessible.
PLEASE PUT THIS IN YOUR DIARY NOW; JUNE
29th/30th & JULY 1st.
