SUNDAY 1st JULY 2007
|
Sunday
began with a weather report which left us uneasy as it had rained all
night and the forecast was gloomy. However at 7.30am the rain stopped
and the sun came out. By 8.30am almost all signs of the rain had gone
except for one puddle near Rally Control.
Quickly
the PA system was set up and the first announcements were made and some
background music was played while the indoor room was prepared to take
Regalia Sales and the Standard Ten Rally presentation with Richard
Sandilands and Tony Pounder. Their rally prepared Ten was parked
outside the room, wheels removed, videos playing, and photographs
displayed. It proved to be a very popular feature with many members
taking an interest and asking about uogrades to their own cars.

Carpets set up their display tent and arranged with owners to take
measurements for carpets. Thanks to them we are now able to take orders
for Vanguard 3 and Flying Nine, and should soon have Vanguard 2 carpets
ready.An
autojumbler arrived with a mass of pre war items which proved popular.
A
new member had been trying for months to get a hard to find item for a
1935 Nine, within 5 minutes of the setting up of the stall he found the
very part he needed. Steve O'Hara started talking to drivers about their
cars, and the Childrens, Guess the Advert, and Guess the Classic
Competitions got underway, also
|
the Grand Raffle. The sun shone and
cars continued to arrive, while marshals organised the car displays in
sections around the Abbey.
Regalia
sales had to be restricted to 1.5 hours and that was a hectic time with
record sales. 115 Ploughmans lunches were served in that lunchtime, then
at 1.30pm the Tribute to the Vanguard began.

After completion of the Vanguard festivities it was time to
commence the Grand Raffle draw with the First prize of a set of car
carpets, and this was won by our magazine editor.. Following that
was the Guess the Advert and Guess the Classic Competitions and then the
Childrens Competition which was themed on Denny Abbey and Standards. The
Lucky Number was drawn and then the auction of a framed exclusive
Vanguard print. Thanks to the generosity of Rob Hebditch a final figure
of £65 was reached. Rob had already sponsored entirely one of the
competitions.
It was then time for the concours awards which you can see separately,
and fittingly a Vanguard won car of the show. The final round of
speeches saw the 48th International Rally end at 4pm.
A video of many of the highlights will be available at £10 from August.
Order from Ian Leggett.
Thanks should be given to the team who planned this rally. They had
not been involved in such a large event before and they performed their
tasks admirably, they were, Tina Walker, Steve King, (with son, daughter
and son in law),Peter Lee, Pete Foster, Conan Lewis and Vera
Leggett. Also
the Committee who carried out their tasks in the usual efficient way.
