on the 60th Anniversary of the Vanguard

Ian Leggett and the
Chairman, Peter Lockley, left, celebrate with a glass of bubbly
SUNDAY 1st JULY 2007
This year is the 60th
Anniversary of the introduction of the Vanguard in 1947. The Club decided
to incorporate the celebration of this event with this year's
International Rally and the festivities took place on Sunday lunchtime,
starting at 1.30pm
Pete
Foster read a detailed description of the development, design and
the the changes during the life of the Vanguard family of cars. I
hope to publish this tribute here shortly. In difficult windy conditions
the help of Steve O'Hara was needed to hold the script. While this was
going on, 18 litres of bubbly was dispensed to the members in readiness
for a toast to the SMC. As the speech ended, a presentation was made to
Michael Joy for his services to Vanguards and their owners and this was
followed by the cutting of 3 specially made cakes, a Vanguard 1, a 2 and
a 3, with the compliments of Mark Denton.
Many of the superb selection
of Vanguards that were present are pictured here. You can click on any of the
thumbnails to see an enlargement. Note that all thumbnails and enlargements
are digitally compressed so if you would like a printable version please
contact the webmaster
directly.
