Bluebell
Run 2008

The Standards
arrive at Kingsbury Water Park
REPORT FROM THE WEST
MIDLANDS GROUP
We met at Beckett's Farm near Wythall,
south of Birmingham, and twelve cars assembled for the run - ten
Standards and the MG TD of Jeff and Hilary Dunn, one-time Flying
Twelve owners. A particular welcome went to Ted Pickering, on his
first West Midlands group event with his Flying Nine. We'd only gone a
mile when we realised the verges and woods were covered in bluebells -
it was almost miraculous. Just one week of warmth and a bit of sun had
done the trick.
Lunch was at the Kingsbury Water
Park, where the highlight was the Echells Wood Railway, a 7 ¼"
line. We were really impressed by the size and scope of this railway,
which used to be at the showground at Stoneleigh. Ten owner Malcolm
Graham showed us round, and we had a ride on his tram. It's well worth
a visit; I'll be going back!
Later we completed the second part of
the run to Hoar Park where we had well-deserved light refreshments
before leaving for home just as the heavens opened.
