| Devon
and Cornwall group meet for Christmas lunch

Hi Phil,
Please find below report of our Devon
and Cornwall Group Sunday lunch which went ahead today despite
atrocious weather. I have just arrived home now and started pressing
fingers to keyboard so it’s hot off the press!
Amid driving rain and galeforce
winds, members of the Devon and Cornwall Group and their partners and
friends, 23 in all, met at a wayside pub on the fringes of Dartmoor to
enjoy the first of what could become their annual Sunday lunch. The
pub so happened to be called "The Royal Standard".
The local reporter for the Okehampton
and Tavistock Times thought it newsworthy enough to turn up and take
photos of some of the brave souls alongside some of the Standards.
Thank you Colin Fry for arranging that and also turning up with three
of your Standards.
Thanks must also go to Chris and
Linda Bowden who set the whole event up but unfortunately couldn’t
attend at the last moment due to Linda’s illness. We all hope you
are okay now; also we understand that David Piper, one of our
regulars, is also out of action through health problems; get well
soon, David.
In view of the atrocious weather, I
think seven Standards was a good showing, three being pre-war and four
post-war. It does show that our members were certainly not afraid of
getting their vehicles wet and grubby. We had representatives from as
far afield as Lynton, Ottery St.Mary and even Bristol.
We had a discussion of what events we
wanted for 2008 and in addition to the regulars of Killerton House,
Powderham Castle and the West of England Rally the consensus of
opinion was that we needed one informal event in the Spring and one in
the Autumn. The enthusiasm was heartening and a holiday with our
Standards in Brittany was even muted but that could be another year!!!
The new Car Secretary for the West of
England Rally was among us (Peter Hallam of Kenilworth and now Ensign
fame ) so we hope to have pride of place in our display at their
August event. Further details on all these events later but if you are
considering coming to Cornwall for the West of England event, and want
information now in order to book B and B accommodation (advisable as
early as possible) phone Peter on 01726-73834 .
