If the weather is the icing on the
cake then we had it thick and sweet.
| With a joining
point at Cambridge most of us met for a convoy along the busy
A10 towards Kings Lynn. We took a brief stop at Denver
Windmill to refresh and join others at this point. The short
downpour coincided with the stop and just added a sparkle to
the bodywork in the sunshine that followed. As we were making
good time two detours were made to Castle Rising and
Sandringham for a short stop.
Eventually arriving at the
hotel in Hunstanton at 6pm where we were joined by more
members, and an evening meal nearby. |

Saturday morning we
were off for a coastal drive to Holt and the North Norfolk
Railway, a reserved carriage and special parking arranged to
display the cars at their best. “Standard Motor Club on tour”
signs were erected at every point of this run. Taking a steam
train trip to Sheringham and back we then drove to Beeston Regis
in Sheringham for a visit to the Priory Maze. Our numbers
swelled even more as the day went on and 31 people were enjoying
finding their way through the maze. We then drove through an
excited crowd in the town centre of Sheringham in a parade
before leaving and onward to Wells on Sea for a harbour drive
and a trip on the harbour miniature railway. Then a short drive
for our evening meal and back to Hunstanton.

| Sunday saw us at
the Heacham Lavender Fields for a guided tour and morning
coffee, then another scenic parade towards Holkham Hall and
a prominent display in front of the hall in glorious
sunshine. There were so many opportunities for photo shots
with windmills, water mills, old AA boxes, Nelsons
birthplace, that many diverted on the return route to take
advantage.
The evening meal on Sunday
was the Event Meal when a few speeches are made and on this
occasion it was followed by a quiz, and as it was
International Humour Day we were all invited to tell a joke.
This took us up till 10pm, so it can be considered a
success. |

Monday was the final
day so it was a process of getting the convoy closer to the
homeward route and this was done after a parade along the
seafront at Hunstanton, and a refuel stop before travelling via
Kings Lynn into the Largest Beer Warehouse in the country open
to the public. With baskets full of strange and wonderful beers
we continued to Collectors World at Downham Market for coffee,
and a look at the quirky, interesting and outrageous exhibits
before lunch, and then the animal sanctuary afterwards before
all going separate ways in the early afternoon. |

| From the comments
a good time was had by all, and a few new entrants expressed a
wish to repeat next year, along with many regulars. If this is
the type of event you feel you would enjoy why not give it a
try next year. It does require a certain amount of discipline
to keep the vehicles together, and a commitment to join in at
the arranged visits to get the group rates. If this bothers
you then this is not the event for you. |

Next year could well see us on the
Essex coast, possibly at Walton on Naze. Always on May Day
weekend.

in the year. If you wish make an enquiry or reserve a place now,

a Review of the event:
Dear
Ian,
This
was a fantastic day out for us, this was our first connection with the
club, and we must both say that we felt we had been there all the
while. People are so
friendly it was unbelievable; we would really love to do this again.
I
took loads of photos and during the transfer to PC and delete from
camera lost the lot, gutted or what? However am sure I will see
the cars again and get some more pics.
