Devon and Cornwall Group at  Killerton House, Sunday 1st June

Club Car wins another prize

Colin Fry & friend Rita with their  prize-winning 1934 10

As usual this years National Trust event at Killerton was attended by members of the Devon and Cornwall section of the Club.

Our Club stand was right in front of the entrance for the visiting public and we were fortunate enough to have room for our gazebo which acted as a welcoming stop for club members and those interested in the cars.

Many club members visited us, some with and some without their vehicles and Chris was kept quite busy making endless cups of tea (or so he said!!).

It was a lovely day with lots of chat and we were fortunate to have a lovely display of seven Standard cars and a lovely Triumph Renown owned by Roy and June Ward, Standard owners, who moved to the South West a couple of years ago and joined us for this years event.

The club stand had the following selection of cars on display including

Mr. and Mrs. Alan Selby’s – 1929 Selby 4 seat Tourer

John & Julia Pine’s - 1933 Little 9

Steve, Karen and Kayleigh Lovegrove’s – 1934 10

Colin Fry’s – 1934 10

Chris and Linda Bowden’s – 1947 Flying 4/8a

Roy and June Ward’s – 1950 Triumph Renown

Peter Starbuck’s – 1955 10

Steve and Sue Troas’s – 1957 8 (Gold Star)

We also found space for a 1939 Standard Flying 8 once owned by Dennis and Shelia Brown and now owned by non members Colin and Margaret Shears of The Wink Leigh Transport Museum (but we are working on them!).

It was a very sociable day with lots of interest in the cars. One of our members, Colin Fry also won Second prize for the most popular cars on display, voted for by members of the public. This was no mean feat as there were over 150 cars on display, but Colin managed it thanks to his period dress and memorabilia. You can see him collecting his award on the attached picture.

All in all a very enjoyable day, made even more special by the fact that the weather stayed good, despite flash flooding only 5 miles away!!
