Member of the Year

Jones at the Group Annual Christmas Lunch on the 14th December, 2008
Over seventy members and their
guests attended the Manchester Group’s Annual Christmas Lunch at the
Albany Hotel, Heywood, Lancashire on Sunday, 14th December, 2008. The
Hotel served an excellent Christmas Lunch at a very reasonable price
and the Management went out of their way to provide a wonderful
seasonal atmosphere that was appreciated by all who attended.
The Group now allocate an award
each year titled Member of the Year. This is presented to a member for
dedicated work within the Group that can be considered above and
beyond the average. Similarly, an award called a Merit Award is
presented to a member who has made a major contribution to the Group’s
activities throughout the year. The recipient for the 2008 Member of
the Year Award was Graham Hart for his outstanding work as Show
Manager and the 2008 Merit Award was presented to Alex Robertson for
his work as Assistant Show Manager and for his magnificent productions
as Group Photographer.
Dr Bryan Jones, Group Organiser,
presented the awards to the deserving members and thanked them for all
they had done for the Group during the year. He also paid tribute to
all the members who had supported the Group throughout the year by
their attendances that now averaged some forty-five at each meeting.
Bryan said that a varied programme was being prepared for 2009 that
included interesting speakers and presentations and of course the
usual participation in shows and road runs.
All Standard Motor Club members
and their families are very welcome at all meetings and events and it
is hoped that many more of you will join us with your magnificent
Standard and Triumph cars at our shows in the future.
