The 2010 Standard International Rally.

News Update 21st June

Under a week to go now to the most important event in the Club's calendar - The 51st Annual Standard International Rally!

The number of pre-booked entries is the largest we can recall, but we have 40 acres of room, so if you haven't entered yet, we still have room for you.  We have a small number of rooms released due to illness, so accommodation and meals are still available for late entrants. or to those who wish to add a stay and meal to an existing booking. with us. Call 01727 868405 immediately.

If you don't want accommodation and meals, you can just turn up for the roadruns on Friday or Saturday, or to the Static Rally on Sunday.

My Standard isn't on the road, can I still enter?

No problem, come and join us anyway. Either bring another Classic and enter it in our Open Class or come in a modern and leave it in the carpark!

To my mind, the Friday and Saturday roadruns are often the most enjoyable aspects of the event. If you don't have a drive, we are always looking for navigators, so come along anyway and we will arrange for you to become a passenger/navigator in a Standard.

Even if your car isn't on the road there are still a large number of reasons why you should join us.
You could:
1. See Standards like yours and meet the owners and travel in the cars
2. Bring any surplus Spares for sale or to swap
3. Meet the committee and Spares Officers
4. Meet the members
6. Collect pre-ordered spares from the Spares Officers
7. Ask questions and get repair or restoration advice
8. Look for spares for your car from other members
9. Escape the "World Cup fever"
10. Purchase Club Regalia items
11. Swap repair and restoration tips.
12. Visit a large motoring Museum

Wyboston is about 50 miles north of London, on the A1 and couldn't be easier to find.

What's more is that the weather forcast is looking good so its a great day out! If you only do one thing for your Club this year - come to the International Rally.

News Update 2nd June 2010

Here's the Rally Plaque for 2010. As a tribute to the car's 100th birthday we have used an image of the Standard Model G, the oldest Standard currently in regular use. This car was at the Cirencester Rally last year and we hope it will join us again this year. If not, there will be a large selection of other Vintage Standards for you to see and enjoy.

This Rally Plaque, in the form of a brass plaque will be given to all entrants. There is still time to join the rally, see below.

News Update  May 18th 2010

Bookings have formally closed for accommodation and the formal Saturday evening meal. There is a possibility that more rooms and meals can be made available, please contact the organiser, Phil Homer directly on 01727 868405 to enquire.

It is, of course, still perfectly possible to enter both of the Roadruns on Friday evening and Saturday - and the static rally on Sunday - and there is still room in the camping and caravan park. Just download the entry form, fill it in and send it off. It is cheaper to do this than enter on the day, though you can still do that too.

YOU CAN BOOK  BY DOWNLOADING A PDF FROM HERE AND PRINTING IT

Independent Review:

The following email has been received from John Lawley, a Standard Motor Club Member in the West Midlands:

"Shirley and I were delighted that the organisers of the 2010 International Rally have discovered Wyboston Lakes Country Club.

We recently organised a classic vehicle event there for the other car club we support.

The facilities provide excellent overnight secure parking well away from busy areas in an area of the car park very near the accommodation block. This has both CCTV coverage and floodlighting and we negotiated a reserved block for our classic cars.

The rooms are quite well appointed and should satisfy most people. They are quiet and located well away from any on site event facilities. The bar prices are normal and certainly not loaded. The usual wide choice was available for breakfast and dinner was a carvery style event with vegetarian options. The food was well presented and the support staff were very efficient.

If you like a little exercise, then the gym and pool facilities are most enjoyable.

Finally, the staff were excellent and the management delivered all that they promised so we can fully recommend this venue to our members for a relaxed and worry-free weekend.

John and Shirley Lawley

If you have stayed at Wyboston Lakes, please tell me about it!

More about the Rally at Wyboston  Lakes

The campus-type venue has a flat lawn for our rally and associated accommodation to make up a perfect weekend.

The proposed itinerary will be familiar to anyone who attended the golden Jubilee weekend at Cirencester, and you can attend on just one, two, or all three days, as usual. Of course, we hope to see even more of you this time!

On Friday evening there will be a short roadrun incorporating a licensed buffet stop overlooking Graffam Water. The bar will be open upon our return to Wyboston. On Saturday there will be a longer, but leisurely roadrun to a large Motor Museum with 350 car exhibits, followed by a sit-down evening dinner in our private restaurant and bar at Wyboston. The Static Rally will take place on Sunday at Wyboston Lakes and will comprise self judging in 11 concours classes.  Catering concessions will be available on the field, or an optional Sunday lunch will be available from the Waterfront Brasserie, pictured below.

Those able to attend for the whole weekend will benefit from special discounted weekend room rates and meals.

Wyboston Lakes provides a superb venue for our weekend event.

Set in 350 acres of rural countryside, there really is no other centre quite like Wyboston Lakes, providing a tranquil and distraction-free environment The high standards of accommodation, and superb food are combined with the facilities and service expected of a good quality hotel.

The centre has over 400 comfortable, ensuite double/twin bedrooms in three hotels, with ample free parking and complimentary wi-fi internet access throughout the whole site. Complimentary hot drinks are available to our guests all day. The bars also feature real ales.

The 18 hole golf course and onsite leisure and water sports facilities provide a full range of wet and dry activities for all the family. Rally Participants have complimentary access to the pool and leisure centre.

This venue is a high quality Corporate Conference and Training Centre on weekdays. As these facilities are little used at weekends, the Club has been able to negotiate heavily discounted and highly competitive prices for our event.

With its easily accessibility, central location and its delightful lakeside setting and excellent facilities including golf course, restaurants, bars and health and leisure club, Wyboston Lakes is ideal for our venue. Please don't miss this.

Please make a note of the dates in your diary now. An entry form can be downloaded and one will be in the Standard Car Review from January.

The map below shows the location of Wyboston Lakes. Note that the A1 is NOT a motorway at this point:
