National
Classic Car Show - N.E.C.

Vanguard Phase 1A Estate
The biggest Classic Car Show
in the UK was held in November in 4 Halls at the NEC. Your
Club had a five- car stand and was very busy over all three days of the
show. The theme of the stand was the role of the Vanguard in Motorway
Barrier testing - and the Ensign was shown imbedded into a large
piece of Armco bought into the show specifically for that theme.

This is a large and
difficult show to organise, Members may not be aware of the
numbers of people required to set up, man the stand during the
event and dismantle it at the end, so I will try to mention
everyone:
Alex Layton- 4/8A,
Steve O'Hara-Teignmouth, Mike Wilkes-Ensign De Luxe Estate,
Brian Birch-Vanguard Phase 2, Peter Lockley-Vanguard 1A Estate.

components, Brian's the display boards, some signs and
lighter table, and Peters Car brought in everything else- i.e
gazebo, kite ,large table, illuminated sign, chairs, A frame and
4 boxes of regalia - except for the carpets which Tony Pingriff
kindly brought in.
Transport to and
from home for the car owners was provided by Graham
Lockley, Rhona Layton, Malcolm Graham and a friend of Mike
Wilkes who also provided the Armco barriers.

A Total of 12 new
members were recruited over the weekend, a record we believe for
an indoor show
We
welcomed a large number of members as visitors on the stand over
the weekend. A couple of comments were heard that some of the cars
had been seen on the stand in previous years. That is of course
true but is caused because volunteers cars are used, if no
new volunteers are forthcoming then cars have to be repeated, its
that simple. If you would like more variety, just volunteer your
car for next year.
|
Volunteers
are also needed for next year's show, for which we've requested another
5 car stand. The vast majority of helpers are over retirement age and could do
with an injection of new blood. If you can help on one or more days or have a
car you could exhibit, please contact Peter Lockley on chairman@standardmotorclub.org.uk
to ensure there will be a good display next year.
