Standard
Triumph Marque Day -2010

The
Standard Lineup in the "Pitts" at Prescott
Every year the Standard Triumph Forum organises a get-together
for all the participating Standard and Triumph Clubs at prestigious venue. This
year it was Prescott hillclimb in Gloucestershire, in late May. My apologies
for the lateness of this report:
I had been having trouble with both my thirties Standards
during May, no oil pressure in one and no compression in the other, so both
were off the road at this time. Though my older Model SLO would no doubt get
there, its a hell of a way from St Albans, so we decided we would probably have
to attend in a modern. At the last minute, Steve Smeltzer volunteered to let me
navigate in the V4, so I was able to attend in a proper car after all.

The fully-laden V4 at the starting line |
We set off early in blazing sunshine and were amongst the
first Standards to arrive. As usual we were totally outnumbered by rows
of Triumphs but we were given a good spot, right by the entrance
to the track, so we could see all the participating cars and more
importantly they could see us.
Steve had also agreed to "open the hill" in the V4, being
the oldest 4-seater there. So his car was filled by the organisers from
the 3 leading clubs, the TR Register, the Stag Owners Club and the
Triumph Six Club and they safely screamed up the hill as fast as the V4
was able. This wasn't a timed competition however and everyone who
wanted to could participate, either on their own or in a cavalcade of
other cars. |
Standard attendees on the day were:
-
Steve Smeltzer, 1927 V4
-
Len Barr, 1913 Rhyl
-
Paul Newsome, Charlecote
-
John Maxwell, 1937 Flying 12
-
Dennis Brown, 1930 Selby
-
Phil Hetherington, Standard 10
-
Martin Jennings Modified Standard 10
-
Peter Lockley, Vanguard Estate
-
Guy and Suzie Singleton, Model V3 Kenilworth
-
Steve O'Hara, Teignmouth
Its a pity more of you couldn't turn up for this great
day out, but those that did had a thoroughly good time and enjoyed the
superb weather.
