Standard Triumph Marque Day 2009

The Standard -Triumph Forum is pleased to announce that the Standard Triumph Marque Day 2009 will be held on Sunday 24th May 2009 at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, near Cambridge, CB2 4QR.

STANDARDS HAVE RESERVED PARKING IN THE CENTRE OF THIS SHOW
NO BOOKING - JUST TURN UP ON THE DAY

The Standard - Triumph Forum is the umbrella organisation of more than 20 clubs catering for Standard and Triumph cars and their derivatives. The Forum meets twice a year to discuss issues of common interest.

Standard Triumph Marque Day is the annual gathering of the clubs and provides the opportunity for members to show their cars and to promote their individual clubs. Previous marque days have been held at other famous motoring venues such as the Heritage Centre, Gaydon, Brooklands and Prescott Hillclimb.

The Imperial War Museum at Duxford contains a truly fascinating and historic display of aircraft and fighting vehicles. The main attractions are the Air Space building, the American Air Museum, the Land Warfare Hall and the working airfield with regular movements of historic aircraft.

Duxford is situated conveniently close to the M11, A14 and the city of Cambridge. Duxford makes an ideal stage for car shows and for a number of years has been the venue for the All Triumph Day organised by the Herts & Beds Area of the Triumph Sports Six Club.

The 2009 event will be organised by Club Triumph, supported by the TR Register and the Triumph Sports Six Club.

The organisers are planning a range of displays, including club stands and attendance by trade suppliers. One of the highlights will be the drawing of the winning ticket for a Triumph Spitfire being raffled by the Macartney Trust, a charity formed to generate funds for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Entry to the event will cost 9.95 GB Pounds per person (children under 16 free), which is payable to the Imperial War Museum at the gate. Entry to the Marque Day gives full access to the whole of the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, and represents a considerable discount compared to the usual public entrance charge of 16 GB Pounds We regret that as Duxford is a working airfield, no dogs are allowed.

Birdingbury Country Festival

Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th July 2009

I am again organising a Club stand for the above event in a pretty Warwickshire village which as well as a large and varied classic car section also has steam traction engines, commercial vehicles and numerous attractions for all the family. It was of course the venue for the Club's 1996 International Rally.

If any Club member wishes to enter please send me a SAE and I will send out an entry form. I will very shortly be sending out pre-printed entry forms to all members who entered last year .
Please note space is limited and being allocated on a first come first served basis by the organisers so I have set a deadline of 30th March to send off the Club's entry.
For more details see www.birdingburyfestival.co.uk Don't worry about needing to be towed out. There were no problems at all in 2008 with the cars section which was dry in spite of rain in the preceding week.

has secured a prime site stand   at this event:

Breaking news: 'Wroughton Classic' vehicle show moves venue,

becomes Adrian Flux Classic Car & Bike Show

Fastest growing gathering of classic vehicles in the UK finds new large site close to Swindon .

The Liddington, near Swindon , Wilts, August 1st-2nd 2009

One of the newest and fastest growing classic car shows in the UK has announced a late change of venue for Summer 2009.

But it's not moving far. Formerly the Wroughton Classic Car Show and originally occupying the Science Museum's Wroughton Airfield site, the show is moving this summer to The Liddington, a prestige 155 acre location only five miles away, but even closer to Junction 15 of the M4 motorway.

In just three years from its founding in 2006 the Show has grown to become the largest in the UK , attracting over 3,000 classic vehicles and more than 25,000 visitors last year. Now, with a new headline sponsor the show is entitled The Adrian Flux Classic Car and Bike Show and can offer extra facilities for family visitors and enthusiasts.

Founder and organiser Greg Dunningham has taken the decision to move with an eye to the show's continued and growing popularity, and says it's an opportunity too good to miss.

"Our success at Wroughton exceeded our wildest expectations, but we had to share that site with a working museum, and it was clear I had to think to the future," he says. "The Liddington offers several bonuses. It's got as much space as the old venue, but it also has several entry points enabling us to use a faster 'one way system' for entry and exit, along with separate trade access.

"And we've negotiated special deals with the attached Hotel and Conference Centre for visitors who want to relax and stay over. For example, they are offering visitors to the Show top quality accommodation from only £18 per person per room."

Greg Dunningham adds that the major car clubs have been enthusiastic about the change. "The Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club is holding its Southern Day at the show, with almost a thousand Jags expected to join us. The popular Old Sodbury Sortout will be bigger and better than ever at Liddington, with a special focus on old vintage machinery and collectables plus Series 1 and 'leaf-sprung' Land Rover autojumble and parts. The Wilts VW DubFest is also expecting record numbers of classic and traditional Volkswagens to attend."

This regenerated Adrian Flux Classic Car and Bike Show is being run in conjunction with Adrian Flux Insurance Services, Classic Car Weekly and Classic Bike Magazine, and is set to be the largest ever. The show will feature a huge variety of motors - from veteran 'old crocks' to rare examples of legendary racing cars and concours-quality cars, vans, motorbikes and other old, traditional and unusual vehicles.

With a large number of car clubs coming, it will be an opportunity to see collections of similar rare vehicles together. Family attractions such as a pedal car race and novelty vehicles are also scheduled.

In addition to a number of competitions with several categories, there will be a variety of grand prizes and trophies, all leading up to the coveted Adrian Flux Car of the Year award for the Best Car in show.

TV and media coverage includes the Classic Gear programme from the 'Men and Motors' TV channel, which last year dedicated an entire episode to the show. The episode has been shown again recently and will be repeated again in the near future, and a clip may soon be seen on the website, www.adrianfluxclassic.co.uk

"Our advance bookings already suggest this is set to be the biggest year so far, and so we are making plans for plenty of space and lots of family attractions. It will be a grand day out, not just for enthusiasts but for all the family," says Greg Dunningham.

On the day, entrance to the show will be £10 for a car and up to four people.

Gerry Bucke, commercial director of Adrian Flux Insurance Services, says the move is taking the show to a new level, and is a superb opportunity to meet customers. "We're delighted to be the headline sponsor for 2009," he says. "It's also a valuable chance to get feedback on what classic vehicle owners really need from their insurance.   And we'll be able to give them quotes - then and there at the show - so they can compare with their existing policies or get instant cover."

For more information on the new Adrian Flux Classic Car Show, to buy tickets, to enter your classic car or find out how your club can attend, call 0844 371 8341 or visit www.adrianfluxclassic.co.uk.

For details on Adrian Flux Insurance Services call the Adrian Flux quote line on 0800 505 3000, email the company at quotes@adrianflux.co.uk or see the Flux homepage on www.adrianflux.co.uk

Cotswolds Road Run 2009

24th, 25th,26th August

Amongst the group's visits in 2006 was a guided tour of Chevenage House

Our third outing will follow the format of the two previous successful roadruns. The first event was centred on Stow in the Wold, the second at Nailsworth. This time we will return to the North Cotswolds, using reasonably priced en-suite bed and breakfast accommodation for two nights.

Our preliminary intentions, including dates, are:

Starting at Monday lunchtime, we will tour the area that afternoon, all of the following day and on Wednesday morning, concluding at lunchtime to enable time to get home.

The accommodation, meals and tourist attractions will be carefully selected and connected by a descriptive route book, allowing relaxed timings for owners of older, less powerful vehicles.

Nine rooms are available if we are all to stay together. The hotel accommodation will be £75 per double/twin room per night, bed and breakfast (singles also available) and as usual there will be other expenses for meals and entrance tickets at attractions. For overflow accommodation we will use local b&b's. We will identify all expenses in advance.

As usual, we promise rolling countryside, honey coloured villages, interesting visits, real ale, good company and hopefully some of the glorious summer weather we have been promised.

Deposits of £20 per person are required as we shall be reserving rooms. As these are limited we will work on a first come, first served basis.

To remind everyone of the fantastic time we had in 2006, here is a rerun of that report

“Fascinating collection of vehicles, I am sure that it is beneficial educationally.” P.A.Barter, Aldro School, Shackleford, Godalming.
“Very pleasurable and interesting afternoon, will want to come again.” The National 39/45 Military Vehicle Group.
“With most collections you hear rumours of what a great collection it is, but usually they never live up to your expectations. But, your collection was much better than expected.” All Wheel Drive Club.
“I can only say I was amazed at the magnificent collection on display.” Invicta Military Vehicle Preservation Society.
“Go to the National Motor Museum or any other fine collection of motor vehicles and Tony Oliver’s establishment makes them look small, it is well worth making the effort even to see vehicles the only type of which are in existence.” Citroen Car Club.U.K.
“Well worth a visit, my only criticism is that there is to much displayed.” (Former) Military Vehicle Conservation Group.
