NOTICE OF ANNUAL
GENERAL MEETING
Events in April 2010
St Georges Day Classic Run ‘Four Counties’ Friday 23rd April 2010 organised by the Fairford Classic Car Club The Club welcomes you all to the eighth St Georges day run. The format will be much as in previous years, a social atmosphere, no competition, interesting roads in a new area for us. Included in this year are coffee at the start, a midday two course lunch and a cream tea to wind up the day at the finish. Every year we move the action around the Fairford area, and this year we are heading north west and then east on a slightly longer route. Given that we have reasonable weather the views on this route are just magnificent. The event is open to members of The Fairford Classic Car Club, Cirencester Car Club, Austin Healey SW, The Historic and Classic Motor Club, The Standard Motor Club and guests driving vintage, classic/post classic cars, modern sports (at the organizers discretion) and motorcycles. The entry fee, which includes coffee/tea with biscuits for two at the start, a rally plate, mid rally lunch for two, cream tea for two at the finish, and all documentation, is £65. Your cheque should be made out to ‘Fairford Classic Car Club’ Our suggested route is just over 100 miles starting at ‘Denfurlong Farm’ near Chedworth just off the A429 at Fossebridge on the A429` north of Cirencester. The first car away is at 10.00am others at 30 second intervals. Please try to arrive at the start by 9.30am to sign on. The route will take us northward and then west along the Cotswold escarpment. It then visits Worcestershire before looping down into Warwickshire and Oxfordshire to pass through the chocolate box villages. The finish is where we started. . The route directions will be as usual by ‘descriptive tulips’. Drivers will appreciate that this year the route is longer than previous years and but we will avoid the use of motorways altogether and use main roads for only short distances. This is a touring assembly, with a ‘suggested route’only under the rules of road events. It does not include any element of competition. Bunny Lees-Smith If you would like to enter this rally, please contact Len Barr on leonardpbarr@aol.com for an entry form DRIVE IT DAY 2010 Drive It Day this year is Sunday 25th April The following local groups of the Standard Motor Club have advised me that they will be organising roadruns on this day: Click on the above links to see more information Every Standard owner should be using their car on this day. Steam & Vintage Extravaganza is an event that will enthrall and entertain
the entire family from the moment you step inside the gates. So vast is the site
and enjoyable the varied exhibits that many people return to the event for a
second day as to see everything in one visit is pretty near impossible to
achieve. People both young and
old are left in awe of the sights and sounds that can be found in, around and
even above the showground. For your time with us you will be rewarded by not
only a huge Steam & Vintage Rally, but also many elements found at a Country
Show and of course the excitement of Aircraft coming and going all thrown in
making the event value for money and one of the most unforgettable days out of
the summer. ATTRACTIONS

OFFICER ON 07773337583 OR e-mail press-office@standardmotorclub.org.uk SEVERN VALLEY HOLIDAY 12 AUGUST - 17 AUGUST 2010 (organised by the Devon and Cornwall Group) This will be the first holiday the Group have organised since its inception nearly ten years ago. This will be ideal for those who need to take a holiday in peak season BUT although it is in peak season it is costing off-peak prices. The holiday is from mid-week to mid-week to reduce the traffic we have to contend with on the longer driving legs. We are now asking any other SMC members if they would like to join us. You must be quick as there are few places left. It has to be finalised so quickly that it will not have time to go in the SMC Review unfortunately. We hope that all of you will be in your Standard vehicles with no tailoring to the event. Most of us will be leaving Exeter Services at 9a.m. on Thursday 12 August and will be travelling on "A" and "B" roads, well away from motorways, up to our accommodation in the Severn Valley. Many of us want to go to the Ironbridge area to see the many industrial heritage museums, Ironbridge itself, Blists Hill etc. On Friday and Saturday, just pick those museums you want to go to or just explore the Severn Valley itself with the shopping centres at Bridgnorth and Kidderminster all within easy reach. On Sunday we hope to visit the Black Country Museum at Dudley – a museum not to be missed – We may be able to park in the picturesque streets with our vehicles, we could possibly invite local SMC members to join us if it could be arranged. On Monday we hope to visit the Severn Valley Railway at Bewdley, being one of the easier places to park at the lines stations. Bewdley shopping area is not far away either. On Tuesday 17 August a leisurely drive home. Our accommodation has a large car park, a restaurant offering an excellent variety of food, all freshly prepared by their fully trained chefs, a bar with REAL ALES and fine wines. I would imagine everyone would eat there for the first night and possibly the last night but there is nothing to stop you driving into neighbouring towns where more pubs and restaurants abound, on other nights. Twin and double rooms are available at £55 per room per night BUT a deposit of £100 is needed NOW to secure your room. Participants must book direct and you must mention the Standard Motor Club when booking to get our discounted rate. Phone Brian Murrish NOW on 01872-560477 (evenings please) or email me at hawksworth147@talktalk.net for full information and the location of our venue. You must mention the Standard Motor Club as these rooms are being held for us only for a limited time. Once you have booked please phone me with your name and car details and if you are joining at Exeter Services or making your own way to Chelmarsh. I will need your daytime and mobile phone number plus an email address if you have one, for those last minute travel instructions. If this jaunt proves successful, an annual holiday, organised by the Devon and Cornwall Group could be a regular fixture on our calendar. YOU NEED TO BOOK NOW OR LOSE OUT For further details phone Brian Murrish, evenings preferably on 01872-560477 or email me on Friends of Lllangollen Rally 23rd August - 28th August 2020 This year the rally is based at two centres. For the nights of 23rd - 25th August, it is based at the Metropole Hotel, LLandrindod Wells and then at the Bryn Howell Hotel, Trevor, near LLangollen for the nights of 26th - 28th August. Several SMC members are already booked into this fantastic annual event which visits attractions and tours mountainous areas of Wales, in good company For more details and booking arrangements, please call John or Rhiannon Howells on 01443 432542
