2008 Welsh
Ralli
|
Monday
18th - Saturday 23rd August 2008
Metropole
Hotel, Llandrindod Wells. |

|
This is a multimarque
rally that has been running for close on 30 years. It's designed for
people who like to use there cars, no standing about in damp Rally
fields, and there is an emphasis on good food, wine and
conversation. All Standards qualify and a number of Standard owners
attend regularly. Last years rally was one of the very best, for we
were blessed with wall to wall sunshine, completely empty roads and
mountain passes, a string of interesting places to visit in mid
Wales and the good company of friends and fellow enthusiasts. The
rally was so successful that the venue will be repeated in 2008.
To enter, you need to
book five nights accommodation (d,b&b) at the 120-room Metropole
Hotel, Llandrindod Wells. This is a 3 star venue with newly
refurbished rooms, excellent food and a Leisure Centre. Mention the
"Friends of Llangollen Rally" to qualify for their
corporate rates. Then advise John or Rhiannon Howells on 01443
432542 of your intention to attend. Other accommodation options are
available in the area.
I can not recommend
this event highly enough to you. Lynda and I both thought this the
motoring highlight of 2008, and we look forward to seeing you there.

DEVON
AND CORNWALL GROUP VISIT TO
THE BODMIN AND
WENFORD RAILWAY
SUNDAY 31 AUGUST
2008
Our Group will be visiting the Bodmin
and Wenford Railway on Sunday 31 August. The Railway is sign-posted
from the main A30 and is only 400 yards from the town centre. We would
hope everyone will meet at the Railway at 10.30a.m. We will be
allocated a reserved area where we can display our Standards, anyone
without their Standard on the road will still be welcome but their
vehicle will have to park in the general parking area. The 10.30a.m.
meet will ensure that we can catch the 11.10a.m. train where, if we
have enough participants, our train fare will be discounted and we
will also have reserved seats. The normal train fare is £10 and
encompasses a trip to Bodmin Parkway in a southerly direction and also
to Boscarne in a northerly direction , so you get quite a few miles
behind steam for your money. The train journey, of course, is
optional. Feel free to wander around the town if you wish. It may,
also, be possible to have a conducted tour of the workshops, if it can
be arranged in time. There are buffet facilities available on the
train and also an ample buffet on the station platform for those that
need their grub!
The train should return us to Bodmin
around 1p.m. and should be hauled by an ex-GWR steam locomotive.
We need to know numbers at this stage
for the Railway to issue a press release as they hope to make a nice
bit of publicity out of our visit also to gauge what size area we will
be needing for our cars. To ensure discount rates on the train, the
fare will need to be paid to me on the day so that I can purchase a
block booking. Have your money ready!
Join us for a day to remember.
To book or for further information
please phone me on 01872-560477 or email:- hawksworth147@talktalkl.net
See you there

COVENTRY
FESTIVAL OF MOTORING 6th-7th Sept 2008
The Festival will kick off on Saturday 6th
September with live entertainment, family fun activities and a display of
entrants’ cars staged in Millennium Place, outside the impressive frontage
of Coventry Transport Museum. During the afternoon spectators will have the
opportunity to vote for the ‘People’s Choice’ prize for the car they
would most like to take home. Coventry Transport Museum will also be open to
visitors throughout the weekend so everyone has an opportunity to see the
world’s largest collection of British road transport and it’s completely
free admission!
On Saturday evening the Lord Mayor of
Coventry will host a Reception Dinner at the Museum with motoring commentator
Graham Robson having a round-table discussion with Andrew Cowan on the 40th
anniversary of his victory in the London-Sydney marathon, driving a Hillman
Hunter. Tickets cost £20 per person and include a reception drink and buffet.
Tickets must be booked in advance and are available from the Museum or by
calling 024 7623 4270.
The highlight of the Festival will be on
Sunday 7th September when 500 vehicles will take part in a 60-mile route
around the region, flagged off by the Lord Mayor of Coventry. In previous
years participants have received a rousing reception from spectators along the
route who held their own street parties so the Festival organisers are
encouraging local residents to recreate that fantastic Festival atmosphere and
give the cars and motorcycles a warm greeting as they drive past. The cars
will then return to Coventry’s War Memorial Park where a packed programme of
entertainment is planned to run throughout the day, including a breathtaking
performance from Motostunts International.
Speaking on behalf of the organising
committee, Chairman Malcolm Oliver said:
"Last year’s Festival of Motoring was
a brilliant weekend for all concerned. The support received from entrants and
spectators alike was phenomenal. Coventry Transport Museum, and our partners
in the organisation of the event, are proud to be involved again this year and
look forward to hosting another memorable Festival in 2008”
For further information please visit the
Festival website: www.festival-of-motoring.co.uk or email: info@festival-of-motoring.co.uk
or contact Coventry Transport Museum on 024 7623 4270
