Standard Motor Products, Madras
and other Indian Standards

Indian built
Pennant, known and badged as the Standard 10
This new minisite
brings together all the material I have published about Indian
built Standards over the last few months. It is dedicated to early
Standard cars in India and also to the later cars produced by
Standard Motor Products of Madras in India from roughly 1948 to
1987. For the later cars I am indebted to Karl Bhote and Shyam Krishnămachary,
THE Standard enthusiasts in the sub-continent, for the majority of
this content and their continued efforts to seek out Standard cars
and aid their preservation. By increasing knowledge of the marque,
through these pages, we hope that more owners will understand
their heritage and help to rescue these cars. As will be seen, not
all the cars are in the condition of the Pennant above, much of
the stock is in poor or very poor condition and we hope that more
people will adopt a car now, before it is too late, and restore it
over time.
Because Standard
production in India continued until 1987, I am abandoning the
usual 1963 cut-off associated with our cars.
